In Indonesia the grand tour of chemical lives of young people was conducted initially in Makassar, together with Professor Nurul Ilmi Idrus of the University of Hasanuddin. We interviewed young people (18-25) who differ in the structure of their every day lives: porters, tricyle and motorcycle taxi drivers, mall workers, sex workers and students. Contrast studies were done in Bira, a rural port town in South Sulawesi, and in Yogyakarta, Java. This ethnographic fieldwork has resulted in a series of published papers (see Publications). In addition, 15 Bachelor and Masters students from the University of Indonesia in Jakarta, University Gadjah Mada in Yogyakarta, the university of Hasanuddin in Makassar and University of Sam Ratulangi in Manado did fieldwork for the project as part of their thesis projects. Each of these students have been invited to write a 3000 word chpater for a book on ChemicalYouth in Indonesia, to be published in 2016.
